THE CHALLENGE

24,700 sq.m shop floor transformation

Carrefour wanted to implement a new store format and concept. The 24,700 square meter hypermarket in Villiers-en-Biére was in need of a brand new look to increase their customer’s convenience and enjoyment.

The Solution

The design concept created smaller “market” spaces throughout the store to evoke memories of traditional marketplaces of regional France. For the central aisle, a deconstructed “organic” look was created using a combination of light boxes and graphic frames in different sizes positioned at varying heights. Both the rectangular and square shaped textiles feature high quality photographs. Large light boxes, some measuring up to 9m by 1.5m, were used for the section signage and were some the largest ever manufactured by Kendu. Their glossy white background gave the store visual coherence while the text’s font and colour showed the “personality” of each section.

Through its original design concept Carrefour now has a unique point of difference amongst its competitors and has become an enjoyable place that customers could shop in. Kendu highlighted their technical mastery by providing detailed plans and instructions for each of the products to ensure their correct and safe in-store installation.

The store transformation was a finalist for “Best International Store” in the 2017 Retail Week Interiors Awards.
