Christmas at Galeries Lafayette

The Christmas window displays of the Galeries Lafayette flagship store in Paris are veritable works of art. Each year they present shoppers with creative festive installations that delight young and old shoppers alike. During EuroShop 2017, the Creative Visual Identity Manager and team were looking for new dynamic element for their windows that was easy to use yet made an impact after previously unsuccessful experiences with digital signage and holograms. The team modern solution needed to blend seamlessly with the more traditional VM elements that would be used in both the 2017 Christmas campaign and those the following years.

Flowbox and Christmas

The Solution

When visiting the Kendu stand, the Galeries Lafayette team discovered Flowbox, an all-new dynamic lightbox and first of its kind to be released to the retail sector. By combining printed visuals with surprising animation effects, Flowbox offered Galeries Lafayette a solution that would differentiate the store’s Christmas windows. Much more than a simple screen, Flowbox could create multiple visual and animated possibilities for their Christmas campaigns.

Based on the brand guidelines and the creative brief, Kendu designed, manufactured and installed different dynamic lightboxes for Galeries Lafayette. The versatile dynamic lightbox with its bespoke creative integrated seamlessly into the 2017 “Spectacular” Christmas. The unique combination of traditional VM elements with the modern dynamic lightbox resulted in an award-winning Christmas campaign with the windows receiving five international awards including “Visual Presentation of The Year” at the 2018 Shop! Design Awards, “Best International Windows” at the 2018 VM & Display Awards and “First Place for Holiday Windows” in the 2018 VMSD International Visual Competition.

Since its triumphant launch, Galeries Lafayette has taken advantage of flexibility and creativity offered by Flowbox to create colourful, customised displays every year at Christmas. Each breath-taking installation is brought to life thanks to Flowbox, including crowd favourite “The Dream Factory” Christmas campaign in 2018 and most recently the 2019 Christmas campaign “The Royal Bee Procession”.

Galeries Lafayette sings Flowbox praises with Minnie Lassus, Creative & Visual Merchandising Director and Production Manager, commenting “in our store windows, Flowbox by Kendu helped contribute to the magic of Christmas and added a magical element to the animation”.
